2024 Summer Internship Opportunities

The Kentucky Democratic Party will offer three part-time (10-20 hrs/wk) internship opportunities during the summer of 2024. The internship runs from early June through early August, but dates are negotiable depending on school schedule.  Interns shall be compensated at a rate of $15/hour, with compensation for mileage and expenses incurred outside of normal commute. 

In a KDP internship, you will: 

• Work side-by-side with KDP staff and statewide Democratic leaders to build Democratic power throughout the Commonwealth.
• Complete a weekly reading on organizing and politics. 
• Participate in weekly all-team video calls with national and statewide leaders in the field.
• Build your experience, network and resumé ahead of a presidential and consequential state legislative election year. 

Internships are available in the following areas: 

Communications & Digital Media 

Create content & manage digital tools to build KDP’s voice and influence in both traditional and new media. 

• Graphic design and style sheet editing for emails and digital media. 
• Create content for social media, KDP website, and emails.
• Write letters to the editor and op-eds for publication.
• Assist with media monitoring and develop press lists.  
• HTML and CSS coding skills are strongly preferred, as well as experience with Canva and Adobe Creative Suite

Data Management 

Learn the ins & outs of voter data management in Votebuilder, our data tracking software. 

• Set up VAN committees & users, Troubleshoot VAN accounts & problems.
• Provide a help desk for data requests from candidates, elected officials, and Democratic Party leaders. 
• Complete voter data research projects. 

Finance & Fundraising 

Learn the day-to-day work of high-dollar and small-dollar political fundraising. 

• Clean up & organize data, generate & vet donor lists, process donations 
• Event planning & execution. 
• Donor research, donor relations, update donor bios.
• Social media fundraising coordination.
