As Republicans Sabotage Public Education, Kentucky Democrats are Defending Students and Families

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Today, Kentucky Democratic Party (KDP) Chair Colmon Elridge released the following statement applauding Democratic efforts to defend Kentucky families from the GOP’s escalating war on public education, which includes laying off hundreds of education workers and ripping nearly $100 million in promised funding from Kentucky schools:

“The Kentucky GOP is letting President Trump wage war against the public schools that serve almost every student in our Commonwealth. Kentucky Republicans endorsed the massive education cuts in his ugly federal budget, so it is no surprise they are now paving the way for him to take even more from our schools, including $96 million in promised funding he snatched back with just a day’s notice. We are thankful Democrats like Governor Beshear are defending our students and families by taking Trump to court — and disappointed that no Republicans are willing to stand up for their constituents by standing alongside him.”
