FRANKFORT, Ky. – Today, Kentucky Democratic Party (KDP) Chair Colmon Elridge released the following statement on President Trump’s callous plan to defund substance abuse treatment programs, undermining Kentucky’s progress against the opioid epidemic and making it harder for Kentuckians to survive addiction:

“As Governor Beshear announces that overdose deaths have declined for three consecutive years in Kentucky, Donald Trump is trying to undo the progress we’ve made by proposing more than $1 billion in cuts to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration — an office that provides recovery support services to Kentuckians struggling with addiction. Trump’s heartless proposal would strip communities of services that have saved countless lives and have ensured more Kentuckians will be able to spend this Mother’s Day with family. Ripping these lifelines away will hit rural areas hardest and ultimately force more Kentuckians to suffer the grief that often comes with addiction.”
