KDP Launches Website to Hold GOP Accountable for Hospital-Closing Budget of Betrayal

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Today, the Kentucky Democratic Party launched a new website to hold Republicans accountable for voting to take food, health care, hospitals and jobs from Kentucky families. BigBetrayalBill.com includes county-by-county data on how many Kentuckians will lose Medicaid and food assistance because of President Trump’s federal budget — a cruel piece of legislation Kentucky Republicans helped design and pass into law.

The website also includes links to local news coverage on Kentucky’s GOP-induced health care crisis and a timeline laying out the budget’s full slate of Medicaid cuts, which will drive up health care costs for all Kentuckians, regardless of how they’re insured, as they take effect.

“In an attempt to hide their cruelty from voters, Republicans designed the most extreme Medicaid cuts in the budget to take effect after the midterms,” said KDP Executive Director Morgan Eaves. “The truth is, as a direct result of their votes, Kentucky hospitals are already canceling projects and cutting jobs. As this gross betrayal plays out, our website will help hold the GOP accountable by tracking the consequences in real-time.”

“Because of the Kentucky GOP, 35 rural Kentucky hospitals are scrambling to find ways to stay open past 2027,” said KDP Chair Colmon Elridge. “20,000 Kentucky health care workers will lose their jobs, and 200,000 of our neighbors will get kicked off their health insurance. As Democrats, we believe all Kentuckians deserve quality, affordable health care — and elected leaders who will put their needs first instead of bowing to a billionaire president.”
