FRANKFORT, Ky. – Today, as thousands of Kentucky college students kick off the academic year, Kentucky Democratic Party (KDP) Chair Colmon Elridge released the following statement slamming Kentucky Republicans for approving cuts that make higher education, and the American dream, even less accessible to Kentuckians and their families:

“Because Republican members of Congress from Kentucky voted to shrink Pell Grants and end support for low-income students, more Kentuckians are making the painful decision not to go to college, forgoing a pathway to greater opportunities and higher wages. Meanwhile, those who choose to take on the cost of college are paying more for supplies because of the tariff-induced Trump Tax. While Democrats want a college education to be affordable and accessible for every Kentuckian, the Kentucky GOP is trying to build a future where only well-off students in big cities get a fair chance at pursuing their dreams.”
