FRANKFORT, Ky. – Today, as we approach the one-month mark of Trump’s fourth government shutdown, Kentucky Democratic Party (KDP) Chair Colmon Elridge released the following statement demanding urgent action from Kentucky’s Congressional Republicans to reopen the government and prevent a lapse in SNAP funding that will leave 600,000 Kentuckians without food:

“With 600,000 Kentuckians days away from losing access to food, Kentucky’s Republican members of Congress are choosing to continue their extended vacation. Over the course of the past four weeks, they’ve done nothing to reopen the government or address the coming hike in health insurance premiums. Now their inaction will take food off the table for one in eight Kentuckians. It is unacceptable that our GOP congressmen refuse to even speak with the Democrats working to make sure Kentucky families who rely on SNAP will be able to feed their kids next month."
