FRANKFORT, Ky. – Today, the Kentucky Democratic Party (KDP) released the following statement in solidarity with Kentucky union leaders on the Trump administration’s outrageous decision to terminate nearly all of its VA union contracts, throwing more than 350,000 workers, including thousands in Kentucky, under the bus:
“President Trump’s decision to rip up the contracts of Kentucky’s VA nurses, doctors and mental health specialists is yet another way he is making it harder for veterans to get the care they deserve,” said KDP Chair Colmon Elridge. “Between this outrageous betrayal, the tariff-induced Trump tax and the pending closure of rural hospitals because of extreme Medicaid cuts, President Trump has cemented his legacy as promise-breaker-in-chief.”
“The Kentucky AFL-CIO stands in full solidarity with the unionized VA workers now under attack. Many are veterans themselves, and they’ve dedicated their lives to serving others,” said Kentucky AFL-CIO President Dustin Reinstedler. “Silencing their voices and gutting their protections is not about improving care — it’s about punishing workers for speaking out.”
