FRANKFORT, Ky. – Today, Kentucky Democratic Party (KDP) Chair Colmon Elridge released the following statement on the 60th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act, passed by a Democrat-led Congress and signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1965:
“60 years ago, Democrats passed the Voting Rights Act to break down barriers that were preventing millions of Americans from exercising their constitutional right to vote. Today, we remain committed to ensuring every eligible American can participate in free and fair elections and be part of what actually makes our country great: democracy.”
