FRANKFORT, Ky. – Today, Kentucky Democratic Party (KDP) Chair Colmon Elridge released the following statement marking 90 years since Democratic President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act into law, creating the resource that now lifts more Americans above poverty than any other program:
“Thanks to the Social Security Act signed into law 90 years ago, Kentucky seniors have a secure retirement that allows them to live with dignity. Unfortunately, because of the Trump Administration’s decision to close Social Security offices in Kentucky and elsewhere, while laying off workers who help people access their benefits, it has never been more important for our elected officials to strengthen this program. Kentucky seniors face new barriers to accessing the benefits they worked hard to earn. Kentucky Democrats will always work to protect Social Security for our seniors."
