FRANKFORT, Ky. – Today, on the heels of a Democratic sweep on Election Day and President Trump’s fourth government shutdown becoming the longest in U.S. history, Kentucky Democratic Party (KDP) Chair Colmon Elridge released the following statement demanding that Congressional Republicans do right thing and work with Democrats to reopen the government:

“What we saw last night was a clear rejection of the GOP’s refusal to work with Democrats to reopen the government. Congressional Republicans have now spent more than five weeks on vacation during the longest shutdown in history. Kentuckians are getting letters about a huge — and preventable — spike in health insurance premiums that will force many to go without care, unless Republicans show up at the negotiating table. It is past time for members of the Kentucky GOP in Congress to get back to work and stop letting an out-of-state billionaire abuse Kentuckians with illegal threats to take food from hungry children.”
