KDP Statement on Halloween Price Hikes

October 31, 2026 · Kentucky Democratic Party

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Today, the Kentucky Democratic Party (KDP) released the following statement on Republican policies, including tariffs and President Trump’s Iran War, affecting how Kentuckians can celebrate Halloween:

“After losing $700 to preventable price hikes on gas, and more than $2,500 to tariff-induced inflation, Kentucky families can’t celebrate holiday traditions the way they did just a few years ago. Kentuckians deserve leaders who will lower costs, not raise them, and we encourage voters to take advantage of early voting on Halloween or head to the polls Tuesday to elect Democrats who are ready to fight for you.”

The rising cost of Halloween is fueled by Trump’s unchecked trade wars and growing fuel crisis, both of which translate to price hikes for Kentucky families on everyday goods and Halloween favorites, including:

  • Sour Patch Kids - 39% more expensive than 2025

  • Jolly Ranchers - 21% more expensive than 2025

  • KitKats - 19% more expensive than 2025

  • Reese’s - 19% more expensive than 2025

  • Butterfingers - 19% more expensive than 2025

  • Skittles - 17.4% more expensive than 2025

  • Starbursts - 17.4% more expensive than 2025

In stark contrast, the Democratic vision for Kentucky is one where all families have what they need to survive and thrive, including affordable healthcare, quality public schools, and good-paying jobs that empower them to put food on the table and, this weekend, candy in the bowl.
