KDP Statement on Ralph Alvarado’s Job History Report

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Today, the Herald-Leader revealed that Republican congressional candidate Ralph Alvarado, while serving as Tennessee’s health commissioner, maintained almost a dozen side gigs, mostly at healthcare facilities in Kentucky, that paid him additional income. This report calls into question both the quality of his work as health commissioner — which isn’t a part-time job — and whether or not his contracts with Kentucky nursing homes and healthcare providers were legitimate. Many of Alvarado’s additional jobs included medical roles with failing nursing homes, which he attempted to shield from abuse and neglect lawsuits while serving in the Kentucky State Senate.

Kentucky Democratic Party (KDP) Chair Colmon Elridge released the following statement in response to the Herald Leader’s reporting:

“Ralph Alvarado is a serial grifter desperately trying to fail up into his next job. Reporting from the Herald Leader shows clear evidence that Alvarado failed to take seriously his roles overseeing thousands of employees and patients as Tennessee’s health commissioner and medical director of nearly a dozen healthcare facilities.

“Ensuring the well-being of patients should not be an occasional weekend gig. Neither should representing voters in the Commonwealth Alvarado abandoned after he and Matt Bevin lost to Gov. Beshear and Lt. Gov. Coleman.”
