KDP Statement on Record-High Price Hikes 50 Days from Election Day

September 16, 2026 · Kentucky Democratic Party

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Today, in response to a joint congressional committee report on inflation showing Kentucky families have lost an average of $3,700 to Trump administration policies, including tariffs and the president’s war in Iran, Kentucky Democratic Party (KDP) Chair Colmon Elridge released the following statement:

“Despite promising to lower costs ‘on day one,’ President Trump’s decisions have cost the average Kentucky household nearly $4,000 through illegal tariffs and war-induced price hikes.

“At the same time, Republican budgets are stripping healthcare, food and community services from thousands of Kentuckians in need, including more than 11,000 hungry children kicked off of SNAP.

“With less than 50 days until Election Day, bills, groceries and gas are on the ballot. While Democrats stand ready to create a better, more affordable future for every Kentucky family, Republicans have put the American Dream on life support.”
