FRANKFORT, Ky. – Today, Kentucky Democratic Party (KDP) Chair Colmon Elridge released the following statement denouncing Kentucky’s Republican constitutional officers for refusing to take necessary steps to balance Kentucky’s state budget and protect Kentucky’s economic future:
“Kentucky’s working families don’t have the luxury of continuing to spend the way they did before tariffs and trade wars took a sledgehammer to the economy. But Kentucky’s Republican constitutional officers must live in a different reality, because every single one has declined to join the Beshear-Coleman administration in agreeing to limit spending and be responsible with Kentuckians’ hard-earned dollars. Their refusal breaks more than three decades of precedent and adds insult to economic injury by forcing families who are losing access to food and health care to cover the expenses of elected officials who refuse to take even a 1% funding cut.
“‘Fiscal responsibility’ must mean something different to these Republican officials than it does to struggling Kentucky families.”
