KDP Statement on Republican Resolution to Destroy Kentucky’s Hemp Industry

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Today, Kentucky Democratic Party (KDP) Chair Colmon Elridge released the following statement urging members of Congress to reject a senseless proposal from Sen. Mitch McConnell that would destroy Kentucky’s hemp industry and put hundreds of farms and small businesses at risk of closing:

“Mitch McConnell’s farm-killing proposal would destroy Kentucky’s $300 million hemp industry, blow a hole in rural economies and punish business owners for trying to provide for their families. Instead of doing anything to help Kentucky farmers who’ve already lost a season’s worth of sales to Trump’s tariffs, Senate Republicans are now on track to make selling a key Kentucky crop illegal.”
