FRANKFORT, Ky. – Today, Kentucky Democratic Party (KDP) Chair Colmon Elridge released the following statement on the start of Kentucky’s 2026 Legislative Session:

"By approving President Trump’s federal budget, Republicans in Congress left an unprecedented mess for Kentucky's General Assembly to clean up. While the supermajority continues to celebrate the largest cuts to health care and food access in American history, Democrats in Frankfort are working to balance a budget that puts the American dream back within reach, ensuring Kentucky families can put food on the table, afford to see a doctor and have universal access to early childhood education.

“As Republicans are confronted with the economic disaster their party created, Democrats will spend every day of this long legislative session fighting to ensure no Kentucky family pays the price for the GOP’s cruelty.”
