KDP Statement on Trump Administration Claiming ‘No American Deaths’ in Iran War

September 3, 2026 · Kentucky Democratic Party

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Today, after Trump administration Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick claimed “there haven’t been American deaths” in President Trump’s war of choice with Iran, Kentucky Democratic Party (KDP) Chair Colmon Elridge released the following statement:

“Kentuckians Sgt. Benjamin Pennington and Tech Sgt. Ashley Pruitt, along with 16 other U.S. service members, have made the ultimate sacrifice in President Trump’s war of choice with Iran. When he visited Kentucky in March, he refused to say their names. Now his administration is denying that they — or any U.S. troops — have died at all.

“This isn’t an honest mistake; it’s what happens when Republican leaders treat the needs, struggles and even deaths of Americans as forgettable afterthoughts. Democrats stand united in supporting Americans troops and citizens — none of whom deserve the chaos, price hikes and pain of Trump’s completely preventable war.”
