KDP Statement on Week 2 of the Republican Government Shutdown

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Today, as President Trump threatens to fire thousands of federal workers and gut health care in his fourth government shutdown, Kentucky Democratic Party (KDP) Chair Colmon Elridge released the following statement reminding Kentucky Republicans that it’s not too late to grow spines and protect health care for thousands of Kentuckians:

“Six days into President Trump’s fourth government shutdown, while he doubles down on threats to take his anger out on federal workers, Kentucky’s Republican members of Congress are doing nothing to help Democrats reopen the government or prevent the incoming health insurance price hike. Tariffs are smothering families and farmers, and job cuts have hit their highest point since 2020. Right now, what Kentuckians desperately need is for their Republican representatives to start telling President Trump ‘no,’ instead of subjecting them to crisis after needless crisis.”
