FRANKFORT, Ky. – In case you missed it, the Kentucky Democratic Party (KDP) continued its media tour in defense of Medicaid and the Kentucky families, health care workers, hospitals and clinics who depend on it. The tour’s second stop, held in Louisville, focused on the impact extreme Republican Medicaid cuts will have on Kentucky mothers and infants at a time when Medicaid covers roughly half of all births in Kentucky.

“The Medicaid cuts that Trump is putting in place will hurt Kentuckians more than any other people in the entire country,” said Congressman Morgan McGarvey (KY-03). “Jobs will be lost. More importantly, lives will be lost. If the hospital in your area of Kentucky closes and your kid gets injured, or your wife goes into premature labor, you’re going to have to drive farther to get the care you deserve when minutes matter.”

"A new birthing center was planned in South Louisville, but because of these cuts that project is now on pause,” said Dr. Ana’Neicia Williams, licensed clinical social worker and maternal health advocate. “That pause is not just a delay in construction, it’s a delay in saving lives. It means more families forced to travel farther for care. It means missed appointments. It means postpartum depression going untreated. It means babies born into systems that fail their parents from day one."

“Over the next few years, you’ll see more hospitals canceling plans and announcing cuts,” said KDP Chair Colmon Elridge. “You’ll see Kentucky Republicans trying to deny the truth, running from their constituents. And you’ll see more doctors — and Democrats — sounding the alarm to protect Kentucky families.”
