KDP Statement: Kentucky Farmers to Spend $39 Million on Iran War-Induced Price Hikes
October 27, 2026 · Kentucky Democratic Party
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Today, in response to a U.S. Senate report showing Kentucky farmers have spent $38,985,154 trying to cover President Trump’s Iran War-induced price hikes on diesel, Kentucky Democratic Party (KDP) Chair Colmon Elridge released the following statement:
“President Trump’s decision to start a war with Iran is the sole reason Kentucky farmers are on track to spend $39 million extra for fuel this year. That's an 82 percent increase in fuel costs these small businesses are dealing with, on top of tariffs and trade wars that have cost them sales, customers and access to entire markets for their products.
“These Kentucky GOP-backed policies translate to price hikes on food for Kentucky families, including the 30,000 children and seniors who just lost food assistance because of extreme Republican cuts. With gas prices skyrocketing and Republican candidates promising more of the same, it’s time for Kentuckians to go to the polls — even if they have to carpool.”
