FRANKFORT, Ky. – Today, the Kentucky Democratic Party (KDP) released the following statement on tariffs affecting how Kentuckians can celebrate the holidays. Thanksgiving dinner will cost the average family 10% more than last year, with some staples increasing in price by more than 50% as a result of President Trump’s Kentucky GOP-backed economic policies
“President Trump’s tariffs and trade wars are pricing Kentuckians out of holiday traditions,” said KDP Chair Colmon Elridge. “With unemployment, job cuts and inflation rising, people are being forced to shrink guest lists and serve smaller portions. In stark contrast, the Democratic vision for Kentucky is one where no child has to wonder where their next meal is coming from — a vision made closer to reality by leaders like Governor Beshear, who sued to stop Trump’s attempt to shut down SNAP for the first time in U.S. history, and everyday Kentucky Democrats, who collected thousands of pounds in food donations this month for families left behind in the GOP hunger crisis.
